Athletics Reward Reliever Sean Doolittle with Extension
(OAKLAND, Calif.) -- After an unexpected position change, the Oakland Athletics have been so impressed with what they've seen from reliever Sean Doolittle, they've rewarded him with a five-year contract extension.
Dootlittle was originally a top first base prospect, but was converted to a reliever and the move has paid off for both sides.
"It means everything that the organization thinks of you like that, that they want to keep you around and they think you can be part of the team for years to come," said Doolittle. "If you factor in the road I took to get here and everything I went through to be able to put on this uniform, it's really special to know I'll be part of this organization for a while."
The 27-year-old Doolittle made the position switch in 2011, and he's part of the big league club since 2012. Many members of the Athletics' front office feel that Doolittle has the talent to one day for a closer for the club.
In 122 relief appearances with the A's, Doolittle has gone 7-6 with a 3.10 ERA.
