Barbara Walters: I Won’t Cry During My “View” Farewell

ABC/DONNA SVENNEVIK(NEW YORK) — Barbara Walters says she won’t shed a tear when she retires from ABC’s The View next month.
In an extensive interview with Variety, the veteran newswoman says she will not cry when she bids farewell on May 16 to the daytime show she created. She says that while she thinks Jay Leno felt he was “pushed out” of NBC’s The Tonight Show earlier this year, “I don’t feel like I’m being pushed out. This was my decision.”
Walters, 84, also notes, “I should really be depressed, but I’m not.”
Walters will continue her relationship with ABC. She will remain an executive producer of The View, and contribute to ABC News.
She vows to not ride off “into the sunset,” declaring, “If the president came on, depending on the circumstances, I might come back. If Fidel Castro said ‘I will do an interview with you,’ which he has not in 25 years, I would go off and do it.”
Walters adds that she’d like to interview Monica Lewinsky again. She famously interviewed Lewinsky in 1999, in the wake of the former White House intern’s involvement with then-President Bill Clinton.
