The glitch reportedly stemmed from an air traffic control center in Palmdale, Calif., north of Los Angeles, where the system went offline.

Airports across the region, including Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, and Phoenix were affected, with no aircraft able to take off, though incoming flights were still able to land.

An FAA facility stopped accepting additional flights into the airspace, according to the agency, but the system was gradually restored.  In many cases, flights were delayed an hour or more, with some diverted to other airports.
