Jeter missed a homer by a couple inches in the bottom of the fifth and settled for a double before Jacoby Ellsbury drove him in.

A crowd of 48,142 gave Jeter a standing ovation in his first at-bat.

The “Core Four” members Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, and Andy Pettitte threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

“It was a fun day, it was fun from the start,” Jeter said.  “Home openers are special at Yankee Stadium.”

Jeter missed last year’s Opening Day due to his ankle injury that kept him out most of the year.
