Last December, Filner, 71, was sentenced to 90 days of home confinement after pleading guilty to felony false imprisonment and two counts of misdemeanor battery. Filner admitted kissing or grabbing three women who were among 20 women who accused him of abusive behavior during his time as both mayor and a 10-term U.S. congressman.

Over the past three months, Filner could only leave his home for medical appointments while wearing a GPS. He was also subject to random visits from a probation officer.

With confinement now over, Filner can actively seek public office again although the likelihood of him doing so is remote since he remains on probation for the next three years and needs to continue counseling.

Furthermore, Filner faces the possibility of being named in civil lawsuits by some of the women he harassed.
