Frieri Out, Smith in as Angels Closer
Published at(NEW YORK) — Los Angeles Angels skipper Mike Scioscia announced that setup man Joe Smith will take over the closer duties from Ernesto Frieri.
Frieri has struggled this season compiling an 0-2 record with 9.35 ERA and two blown saves in four chances. In his last appearance on Wednesday, Frieri surrendered four runs in 0.1 of an inning.
Smith, who has three career saves, has pitched 10 innings this season posting a 3.60 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP, three walks and 11 strikeouts.
