Sens. John McCain of Arizona, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire say that there are still no clear answers as to what happened on the night of the siege that was initially blamed on a mob protesting an anti-Islam film produced in the U.S.

GOP lawmakers have charged the White House with trying to cover up the facts in order to burnish President Obama’s foreign policy credentials during a heated reelection bid.

Speaking for his colleagues, McCain told reporters at a press briefing Wednesday, “We will not stop until this issue is completely well known to the American people. Those who are responsible for it are held accountable and those who carried out this heinous attack that killed four Americans are brought to justice. None of those things have happened.”

McCain added that he wants to know why references to al Qaeda were edited out of the talking points following the attack and kept out of the public eye.

Democrats maintain that GOP attempts at keeping the Benghazi issue alive is nothing more than a “witch hunt” and is also meant to embarrass former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a possible candidate for her party’s 2016 presidential nomination.
