Davis, having lost his starting first base job to Lucas Duda on Friday, was called on to pinch-hit in the pitcher’s spot and lined a 0-1 pitch to right field for a grand slam.

Trailing by a run in the ninth inning, Juan Lagares led off with a walk against fill-in closer J.J. Hoover.  Anthony Recker bunted in an attempt to move Lagares over, but Reds first baseman Joey Votto threw to second base for the force play and he was called out.

Mets manager Terry Collins came out of the dugout and asked for a replay challenge.  After a brief review, the call was overturned by crew chief John Hirschbeck.  Hoover then walker Ruben Tejada to load the bases, and Davis made him pay.

The Mets (2-3) have now won two straight games after being swept by Washington in three games to open the season.  Cincinnati fell to 1-4.
