(DARLINGTON, S.C.) — Kevin Harvick took home his first career pole at Darlington Raceway on Friday.
Harvick won in the knockout round for Saturday night’s Southern 500 and was followed by Joey Logano, who was last week’s winner at Texas.
“It all worked out. Knockout qualifying paid off for us today because we were able to save the best for last,” Harvick said. “We just had faster cars to drive in qualifying.”
Logano is starting in the top-10 for the seventh time in eight races.
“It’s insane,” Logano said. “This is the place you go to where you have the most sensation of speed. Here and Dover are the two places you feel like you’re really hauling the mail.”
Aric Amirola had the third fastest qualifying time and Marcos Ambrose was fourth, followed by Brad Keselowski.
