(NEW YORK) — Former Louisville guard Kevin Ware is moving closer to home.
The 6-foot-2 guard confirmed to ESPN that he will transfer to Georgia State, a plus for him since his family lives in Georgia. He will seek a medical redshirt and have two seasons of eligibility left for the Panthers.
Ware made national news a little more than a year ago when he suffered a gruesome broken leg in the Elite Eight against Duke. He decided to leave Louisville last month after averaging just 1.7 points in nine games this past season. He sustained an injury to the same right leg in a game against Missouri State in mid-December and decided to shut it down.
Georgia State went 25-9 last season under head coach Ron Hunter.
