Letter Written Aboard Titanic Sold for $200,000 at Auction

According to the Huffington Post, the letter was written by Esther Hart, a passenger in second class, just hours before Titanic struck an iceberg on April 14, 1912. The previous record for a Titanic-related letter was about $150,000.

The letter was written on Titanic stationary came with an envelope that showed the White Star Line flag, the company that operated Titanic.

Hart wrote of the cross-Atlantic trip she was making with her daughter. Both Esther Hart and her daughter were rescued by the HMS Carpathia in the aftermath of Titanic’s sinking.

The letter was auctioned by Henry Aldridge & Son Auctioneers and had an estimated value of just over $160,000.
