(WASHINGTON) — The Washington Nationals placed outfielder Bryce Harper on the disabled list on Sunday.
Harper hurt his hand during a head-first slide into third base on Friday night after hitting a bases clearing triple. The move is retroactive to Saturday.
“It’s part of baseball. You slide into the bag and sometimes you get your fingers,” Harper said. “It’s a bummer, but hopefully I’ll be back soon.”
Harper was hitting .289 with just one homer in 83 at-bats this season.
“Hopefully 15 days go by and I can get back out there,” Harper said. “We’ll see how I feel in 15.”
The Nationals also placed third baseman Ryan Zimmerman and catcher Wilson Ramos on the disabled list with hand injuries this season.
“It’s frustrating,” Harper said. “I want to be out there and be able to help my team win every single day.”
