New Yorkers Hate State Taxes the Most
Published at | Updated at(WASHINGTON) — With the moment of reckoning having arrived, millions are trudging to the Post Office or their computers on Tuesday to file their tax returns.
In addition to what’s owed to the federal government, there are also state taxes to contend with. Gallup decided to ask residents of each state the question, “Do you consider the amount of state taxes you have to pay as too high, or not to high?”
People in the tri-state New York area griped the most about it while the fewest complaints came from folks in Wyoming.
Here’s a list of the percentage of residents in the top five states who replied “too high”:
- New York: 77
- New Jersey: 77
- Connecticut: 76
- Illinois: 71
- Rhode Island: 70
And the bottom five:
- Florida: 33
- Nevada: 28
- South Dakota: 27
- Alaska: 21
- Wyoming: 19
