“He provides a versatile player at receiver and brings good size as well as experience to the position,” Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said.

Avant had spent the previous eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, but was cut by the team earlier in the off-season.

With the loss of wide receivers Steve Smith, Brandon LaFell, Ted Ginn Jr., and Domenik Hixon all to free agency, the team was in dire need of experience at the position.

The 30-year-old Avant is not a deep threat, but a reliable target who excels as a slot receiver. This past season, Avant caught 38 passes for 447 yards and two touchdowns. The previous three seasons, Avant has averaged 52 catches for 633 yards.

Along with Avant, the Panthers have added wide receivers Jerricho Cotchery and Tiquan Underwood.
