Recker led off the 13th with a solo shot off of Angels reliever Matt Shoemaker (0-1). John Lannan (1-0) tossed two scoreless innings to pick up his first victory of the year.

The Mets seemed to have the game in hand after scoring two runs in the top of the ninth to make it 6-3, but closer Jose Valverde allowed a three-run homer to Angels designated hitter Raul Ibanez to send the contest into extra frames.  The blast is Ibanez’s 302nd career home run and his 2,000 hit.
