The 37-year-old Wolf signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners in Febuary, and won a spot in the team’s starting rotation. But Wolf asked for his release from the team after the Mariners asked him to sign a clause that would have allowed them to release him in the first 45 days of the season without paying him his entire salary.

“I principally objected to that, simply because we negotiated in good faith in February on a very team-friendly contract if I were to make the team,” Wolf said. “I felt like I came in in amazing shape, I pitched great, I earned a spot on the team. They told me I earned a spot on the team and, to me, that advanced-consent thing is kind of renegotiating the contract. So I told them I wouldn’t sign it. I disagreed with that.”

Wolf missed last season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery. The veteran left-hander has pitched in 14 major league seasons compiling a 132-117 record with a 4.20 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP.
