Spurs Get Past Mavericks in Game 1, 90-85
(SAN ANTONIO) -- Some things just never chance, even in sports. The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Dallas Mavericks 90-85 on Sunday thanks in large part due to the performance of none other than Tim Duncan.
Duncan scored a game-high 27 points in the game while Tony Parker added 21 points of his own. Manu Ginobili added in 17 points as well.
Even though it was a balanced effort by the defending Western Conference Champions, but it was all about Duncan, who scored nine points in the paint in the fourth quarter to help overcome the team's 10-point deficit.
"Timmy, he's not going to score 24 a game or anything like that," Spurs head coach Greg Popovich said. "He's the base from which everything occurs, whether he's scoring or not. It just gives us a comfort level a point from which to operate. He plays (defense), he rebounds, scores here and there, he just dos the job."
Devin Harris led the Mavericks with 19 points and five assists while Dirk Nowitzki scored just 11 points.
