Woods underwent a microdiscectomy on Monday in Park City, Utah. It will be the first time in 20 years that Woods will miss the prestigious event.

“I’d like to express my disappointment to the Augusta National membership, staff, volunteers and patrons that I will not be at the Masters,” Woods said. “It’s a week that’s very special to me. It also looks like I’ll be forced to miss several upcoming tournaments to focus on my rehabilitation and getting healthy.”

Woods has been dealing with back issues for quite some time, and they forced him to withdraw in the final round of the Honda Classic last month.

Even though he played the following week at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, he admitted that his back was still bothering him.

It is not known yet when Woods will be able to compete again following the surgery.
