Trading Ends Lower as Investors Await Friday Jobs Report
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — Stocks closed down but off Thursday’s intraday lows in anticipation of Friday’s employment report.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down a fraction, but flirted with an all-time high just moments before the bell. The blue chips index closed at 16,572.55. The Nasdaq Composite fell 39 points to 4,237.74, and the S&P 500 gave up 2 points to end the session at 1,888.77.
The IRS wanted more people to e-file, and it appears that people are listening. About 91 percent of the returns submitted to the agency so far have been electronic. The tax-filing deadline is less than two weeks away.
