The CTA announced that 25-year-old train operator Britney Haywood was fired on Friday because the March 24th train derailment was her second of two serious safety violations.

Haywood admitted to investigators that she dozed off just before the crash. She also told them that in February she dozed off on the job and missed a stop.

The CTA says it’s changing its scheduling procedures to give operators more time between shifts and fewer consecutive days working. But, the CTA does not believe scheduling played a role in the March.
