ABC 040814 TwitterRedesign? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1396998047387Twitter(SAN FRANCISCO) — Twitter began its gradual roll-out Tuesday of its new profile redesign, and the result looks a lot like Facebook.

The new look includes a larger profile picture and a header photo that spans the top of the entire page.

Twitter said the redesign allows users to pin their best tweets to the top of a page and tweets that receive more engagement will appear slightly larger, making it easy to locate a person’s best content.

Also new is a filtering mechanism that will allow users to parse through other people’s timelines much easier to search for replies and tweets with attached photos or videos.

It’s worth noting that the redesign is only available on the desktop version of Twitter and hasn’t been expanded for smartphones and tablets, where the service is commonly used.

A select few Twitter stars, including Michelle Obama (@FLOTUS), musician John Legend (@JohnLegend) and Scandal actress Kerry Washington (@KerryWashington), were transitioned to the new look Tuesday.

The new features are expected to be rolled out to everyone in the coming weeks, according to a blog post from Twitter.
