Testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Secretary of State John Kerry said it was obvious that Russia was the driving force behind the separatists creating havoc in Ukraine, accusing Moscow of “an illegal and illegitimate effort to destabilize a sovereign state.”

Meanwhile in Paris, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, warned the Kremlin that if it ignores the will of the international community and invades Ukraine, there will be “grave consequences for our relationship with Russia and would further isolate Russia internationally.”

Russia continues to deny any hand in the protests rocking eastern Ukraine and spreading south to Crimea, already annexed by the Russian Federation. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow still supports multinational talks with the U.S., European Union and others to end the crisis.

However, things continue to get more volatile in Ukrainian cities such as Donetsk where a regional administration building remains occupied by pro-Russian protesters.
