Wieters, Orioles Deal Tigers First Loss of Season
Published at(DETROIT) — Matt Wieters homered as the Baltimore Orioles handed the Detroit Tigers their first loss of the season Sunday, a 3-1 setback at Comerica Park.
Chris Tillman allowed just one run while pitching into the ninth inning to earn his first victory of the season for the Orioles. Justin Verlander took the loss for Detroit, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks over eight innings.
Tommie Hunter entered with one out in the ninth and a runner on second base. He retired the last two batters for his second save of the season.
Adam Jones drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly as Baltimore won for the first time since its season opener.
