You can quickly check to see if your PC runs on XP by visiting AmIRunningXP.com, where the homepage will advise whether your computer will be affected.

While users will still be able to run the popular operating system, technical assistance, including automatic updates to protect users’ PCs, will no longer be available, Microsoft said.

“If you continue to use Windows XP after support ends, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses,” the company said on its website.

Microsoft is encouraging all XP users to upgrade their computers to Windows 8 and is trying to sweeten the deal by offering $100 off the latest operating system, 90 days of free support and data transfer at no additional cost.

Read more from Microsoft here about why XP support is ending and your options for transitioning, if you choose to do so.
