ABC Announces 12 New Shows for 2014-2015 Season, Including Latest Shonda Rhimes Drama

ABC/Ida Astute(NEW YORK) -- ABC is turning over its entire Thursday-night schedule to Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey's Anatomy and Scandal.

The network has ordered a new drama from Rhimes, How to Get Away with Murder, starring Viola Davis. Davis will play a professor who "gets entangled" with four of her law students.

Beginning this fall, Grey's Anatomy will air at 8 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday nights, followed by Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder.

ABC on Tuesday announced a total of 12 new series for the 2014-2015 season, including six that will premiere in the fall. Aside from How to Get Away with Murder, the new fall shows are:

  • Selfie, a comedy loosely based on My Fair Lady. It will focus on a woman who has 263,000 social media followers, but struggles to connect with people in the real world.
  • Manhattan Love Story, a romantic comedy that follows a couple in a new relationship.
  • Forever, a drama starring Fantastic Four actor Ioan Gruffudd as a New York medical examiner who's immortal.
  • Black-ish, a comedy featuring Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross and Laurence Fishburne, focusing on a family man who "sets out to establish a sense of cultural identity for his family that honors their past while embracing the future."
  • Cristela, comedy that centers on a Mexican-American woman who tries to balance a potential law career with the values of her family.

Some of ABC's other new series for the 2014-2015 season include:

  • American Crime, a drama penned by Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave screenwriter John Ridley and focusing on a young couple who's attacked in their home. It stars Felicity Huffman.
  • Marvel's Agent Carter, a series highlighting Hayley Atwell's Captain America character. It will air in midseason, during an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hiatus.
  • Secrets and Lies, starring Ryan Phillippe as a Good Samaritan-turned-murder suspect.
  • The Whispers, an alien-invasion story executive produced by Steven Spielberg.
