Astros Snap Tigers’ 8-Game Winning Streak
(DETROIT) -- Astros rookie George Springer belted his first career home run as Houston (11-24) took care of Detroit (20-10), 6-2, on Thursday to snap the Tigers’ eight-game winning streak.
Springer, a first-round draft pick of the Astros in 2011, took Tigers starter Drew Smyly’s (2-2) first pitch and sent it over the right field wall. Catcher Carlos Corporan and third baseman Matt Dominguez also homered for Houston.
Astros starter Dallas Keuchel (3-2) allowed two earned runs, six hits and struck out seven over 7 2-3 innings of work. His former teammate at the University of Arkansas, Smyly, gave up three earned runs, five hits and struck out two in 5 1-3 innings.
