Chris Davis Hits Three Home Runs as Orioles Trounce Pirates
(PITTSBURGH) -- Chris Davis hit three home runs and had five RBIs as the Baltimore Orioles clobbered the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-2 on Tuesday night.
It was the second career three-homer game for Davis, who doubled his season total in one night. He also went deep three times on Aug. 24, 2012 against the Toronto Blue Jays.
"I felt like I just had some good pitches to hit and I rolled over everything, so I got here early today and worked on some stuff in early (batting practice)," said Davis. "It just sometimes clicks for you and today was one of those days."
The MLB's home run king in 2013 hit a two-run blast in the fifth inning off Francisco Liriano (0-4) that gave the Orioles a 6-1 lead. He added a solo shot in the seventh inning and a two-run shot in the ninth to break the game open. He led the majors with 53 home runs last season.
Nelson Cruz also homered for the Orioles, while Adam Jones had two hits to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. Miguel Gonzalez pitched six innings to earn his second victory of the season.
