Giants Expect Starting Pitcher Matt Cain Back on Saturday

Jason O. Watson/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The first place San Francisco Giants will receive a boost to their team this weekend as starting pitcher Matt Cain is expected to be back in the rotation this Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Cain has been out of action since May 21, when he felt a twinge in his leg while throwing a pitch in the third inning.

The team put Cain through a bullpen issue on Wednesday, and determined he was good to go.

"He's fine, no issues there," manager Bruce Bochy told reporters.

The 29-year-old Cain was in the midst of a bounce-back season after he struggled mightily in 2013. He had arguably the worst season of his career, but was one of the team's best pitchers prior.

In eight starts this season, Cain is 1-3 with a 3.66 ERA. He is in his tenth season in the Majors, all with the Giants.
