Jimmie Johnson Wins Coca-Cola 600
(CONCORD, N.C.) -- Jimmie Johnson won the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway Sunday, helping him qualify for NASCAR's new postseason format.
After winning the pole on Thursday, the six-time Sprint Cup champion led 165 of the 400 laps en route to Victory Lane. It was the first win of the season for Johnson, marking his 13th straight season with a victory.
The defending Cup champion also picked up his fourth win in the 600, and a record seventh victory at Charlotte.
Johnson passed Matt Kenseth with nine laps to go and was never threatened on his way to the checkered flag. Kevin Harvick finished second after leading 100 laps while Kenseth took third. Carl Edwards and Jamie McMurray rounded out the top five. McMurray won the All-Star race in Charlotte last week.
