Mets Place Starting Pitcher Dillon Gee on the DL
(NEW YORK) -- Just as the New York Mets call up one of their prized pitching prospects, they lose a starting pitcher. The team has announced they've placed Dillon Gee on the disabled list with a strained right lat muscle.
According to Gee, he felt unusual soreness after his last start Saturday against the Philadelphia Phillies. He felt the injury worsen when threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.
The team hopes that Gee will miss just two starts.
Rookie righthander Jacob deGrom will take Gee's spot in the rotation. The team recently called up rookie Rafael Montero, who will be making his major league debut Wednesday against the New York Yankees.
This is a tough blow for the Mets, as Gee has been the team's most consistent starter this season.
In 8 starts this season, the 28-year-old Gee has gone 3-1 with a 2.73 ERA.
