“Nashville” Star Teases What Viewers Can Expect on Season Finale
(NEW YORK) -- All season long on ABC's Nashville, viewers have seen Connie Britton's Rayna James fall in love with Will Chase's Luke Wheeler. Still, is there love left between James and Deacon Claybourne, played by Charles "Chip" Esten?
Esten tells ABC News Radio that his character may have a fighting chance in this complicated love triangle.
"We were blown apart at the beginning of the season because of the [car] accident. And she said it real well -- we need to sort of fix ourselves. We can't fix each other for a while. But slowly, but surely, we always have that connection no matter what's going on," Esten said Tuesday night at the Entertainment Weekly/ABC-TV Upfront VIP Party in NYC. "Here, near the end of the season, we've been getting a little closer and closer and finding those moments. But she's with the great Luke Wheeler, and that's a mighty big hill to climb for Deacon."
"But I don't know, you think he's going to go down without a fight?" he wondered.
Viewers shouldn't get their hopes up too much. Esten teases that his character may lose this battle in winning Rayna's heart.
"I'm not going to be upside down in a truck at the end of this season. I can tell you that, but my heart's gonna get...it's a little tricky down there at the end. There's some story to be told, for sure," he teased.
Nashville's season finale airs Wednesday at 10 p.m. Eastern time on ABC.
