Orioles Catcher Matt Wieters Will Not Need Sugery on His Elbow
(ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.) -- Baltimore Orioles fans can breath a sigh of relief as catcher Matt Wieters will not require surgery on his sore right elbow.
Wieters was examined by renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews recently and it was determined that he does not need surgery and his season is not in jeopardy.
Wieters said he was relieved since "it's a positive outlook to where we definitely see getting back on the field sooner rather than later."
The 27-year-old Wieters did not start for the Orioles on Wednesday and his elbow had bothered him for weeks. He feared that he could possibly need to undergo Tommy John Surgery.
Another reason this news is so fortunate is that Wieters is off to the best start of his career. In 23 games this season, Wieters is hitting .341 with five home runs and has driven in 18 runs.
