Ortiz Held Out of Starting Lineup Due to Sore Right Calf

Scott Cunningham/Getty Images(BOSTON) -- Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz was scratched from the team's starting lineup Thursday against the Atlanta Braves due to right calf soreness.
Ortiz did enter the game in the eighth inning as a pinch-hitter and was intentionally walked, but then was replaced by a pinch-runner.
The 38-year-old Ortiz has been dealing with calf issues throughout the season and he missed last Saturday's game due to his calf.

"After two full days at first base (in Atlanta) and another at DH last night, it was best to hold him out tonight," Red Sox skipper John Farrell said. "This is precautionary, just want to not put him at risk any further."

Ortiz is hitting .270, with 12 home runs, 30 RBIs and a .372 on-base percentage this season.
