Paul, Clippers Cruise to Game One Win
(OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.) -- Chris Paul hit a career high eight 3-pointers as the Los Angeles Clippers cruised to a 122-105 win over Oklahoma City on Monday night in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals. Paul finished with 32 points and 10 assists in the victory.
"I came over here early before the game and got a lot of shots up," said Paul, who had never made more than five three's in a game.
With 7:16 to play in the first, the Thunder led 16-10 before Los Angeles went on a 21-4 run to open up a 31-20 lead. The Clippers never looked back, with the lead hovering around 20 for the majority of the game.
Both teams were coming off physical Game 7 wins in their previous series, but Los Angeles looked the fresher team Monday night.
Paul's hot shooting carried over to the rest of the team, as the Clippers shot almost 55 percent from the floor in the win. Los Angeles made 15 of 29 three-point attempts while the Thunder were just 9-for-28 from downtown.
"We have to get more physical," said Thunder forward Kevin Durant after the loss. "I'm talking about jamming the lanes, fighting through screens and not letting guys run free."
Oklahoma City has been in this position before this postseason. The Thunder trailed Memphis 2-1 and 3-2 in the first round before rallying to win that series. Game 2 is Wednesday night in Oklahoma City.
