Phillies Place Third Baseman Cody Asche on the DL
(PHILADELPHIA) -- Just as he was starting to come around at the plate, the Philadelphia Phillies have placed third baseman Cody Asche on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring.
Asche hurt his hamstring Friday night in the team's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The team sat him out for the weekend, but decided a trip to the disabled list was best for him.
"There wasn't much improvement," Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro told CSNPhilly.com. "Rather than risk it turning into something long term, we decided to be cautious so it doesn't linger."
After hitting just .161 during the month of April, Asche was finally figuring things out. In the month of May, he was hitting .317 with a .406 on base percentage.
Right-hander Justin De Fratus was called up to take Asche's place on the Phillies roster.
The team is now considering calling up top-prospect Maikel Franco to play third base.
