Rays Hand Red Sox 9th Straight Loss, 6-5 in 15 Innings

iStockphoto(ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.) -- The Tampa Bay Rays (22-28) outlasted the Boston Red Sox (20-28) in 15 innings on Saturday, 6-5, sending the defending champions to their ninth straight defeat.

Rays pinch-runner Cole Figueroa scored the winning run from second base after Red Sox reliever Andrew Miller (1-4) threw the ball into centerfield while attempting to start a double play.

Boston jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning with catcher A.J. Pierzynski leading the way with a three-run home run off of Rays starter David Price. Tampa Bay tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth on a two-run double by Rays outfielder Brandon Guyer.

Rays left-handed pitcher Cesar Ramos (2-3) picked up the win in relief, tossing three scoreless innings.
