Red Sox Place Pitcher Clay Buchholz on the DL
(BOSTON) -- Clay Buchholz' rough 2014 season has taken another turn as the team has placed him on the 15-day disabled list with a hyper-extended left knee.
Buchholz suffered the injury in his last start against the Atlanta Braves on Monday, but he has also been ineffective this season.
After a bullpen session on Wednesday, the team felt it was best to shut him down.
"When he got into the bullpen, probably the 18- or 20-pitch mark, there was some feeling of some instability," manager John Farrell said. "Can't say that it's structural, but when he tried to get increased intensity and get some finish to pitches, there was a sensation that was being felt, and we shut him down at that time."
The 29-year-old Buchholz is off to the worst start of his career in 2014. In 10 starts, Buchholz is 2-4 with a 7.02 ERA with a 1.98 WHIP.
He's spent his entire eight-year career with the Red Sox.
