Report: Raptors Reward Head Coach Dwane Casey with Extension

Brian A. Westerholt/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- After some surprise success this season, the Toronto Raptors have rewarded head coach Dwane Casey with a three-year contract extension, according to The Toronto Star.

In his third season in Toronto, expectations weren't very high for the Raptors. Some even thought they'd be among the teams who would be tanking to receive a higher draft pick for the June draft.

Instead, the Raptors surprised many around the NBA as they won a franchise-record 48 games, won the Atlantic Division for the first time since 2007, and made the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

Despite the team's first-round playoff exit against the Brooklyn Nets, the front office decided that Casey is the right man to lead the team going forward.

Since he was hired prior to the 2011-2012 season, the Raptors have steadily improved. The team won 23 games his first season, 34 games last season, and his obvious success this season will keep him coaching the team the next three seasons.
