Smith-Pelly Scores Twice to Lead Ducks to Victory, Take 3-2 Series Lead
(ANAHEIM, Calif.) -- Devante Smith-Pelly scored two goals to help lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings Monday, in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinal.
Anaheim has now won three in a row and has a 3-2 series lead.
The game was tied at a goal apiece early in the second period when the 21-year-old Smith-Pelly scored two times in less than two minutes.
"We're just having a lot of fun," Smith-Pelly said. "This is what you dream about, playing in the playoffs."
The Ducks would add one more to take a 4-1 lead, but Kings winger Marian Gaborik scored two goals to whittle Anaheim's lead to one with 5:48 remaining. Ducks rookie goaltender John Gibson refused to let the Kings score from there finishing the night with 39 saves.
"We were talking about how we have to get to Gibson, and if we do, things are happening," Gaborik said. "If we get shots through and try to go to the net, rebounds are there, and we got some chances. We have to keep doing that and we have to clean a lot of stuff up. We're coming home. We're confident we can win and come back here."
That chance will come Wednesday night. The puck is set to drop in Los Angeles at 9:30 p.m. Eastern.
