Welcome to the Playoffs: Gibson Blanks Kings in Postseason Debut
(LOS ANGELES) -- John Gibson may have been nervous but he didn't play like it.
Gibson, who made his NHL playoff debut on Saturday night, stopped all 28 shots that he faced to lead the Anaheim Ducks to a 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinal.
"I think there's always nerves, but you've always got to learn to control them," said Gibson, widely considered the best goaltending prospect in hockey. "After the first five minutes, I settled down."
The Ducks also did their part to help Gibson with his debut by scoring early.
Devante Smith-Pelly and Ryan Getzlaf both scored in the first period.
Gibson becomes the youngest goalie in NHL history to post a shutout in his playoff debut.
The series now shifts back to Anaheim Monday for Game 5. The puck is scheduled to drop at 10 p.m. Eastern.
