#YesAllWomen Campaign Gains Steam on Social Media

Photo by Bethany Clarke/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- What started as a single tweet has exploded into a powerful social media campaign fighting misogyny.

Days after a 22-year-old man with a grudge against women went on a murderous rampage in Santa Barbara, California, the hashtag #YesAllWomen is still trending on Twitter.

The campaign's point is that while not all men are guilty of crimes to women, all women are affected by misogyny. It was reportedly launched by a Twitter user named @GildedSpine in response to men defending their gender by arguing that Santa Barbara shooter Elliot Rodger isn't a fair representation of all men.

“Let’s discuss what ‘not all men’ might do, but women must fear,” she wrote, according to Bustle.

Since then, countless men and women have used the hashtag to join in the conversation.
