Liriano Placed on DL with Oblique Injury
(PITTSBURGH) -- Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Francisco Liriano was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday due to a strained left oblique.
The 30-year-old Liriano suffered the injury in Tuesday's game versus the Chicago Cubs. He felt discomfort while throwing a pitch in the fourth inning and was removed from the game.
Liriano, who is the reigning National League Comeback Player of the Year, has started 14 games this season, pitching 72 1/3 innings, striking out 77 and walking 36 while compiling a 1-6 record with a 4.60 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP.
Right-handed reliever Stolmy Pimentel was activated off the DL to take Liriano's roster spot.
