Michelle Wie Wins US Women’s Open

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(PINEHURST, N.C.) -- She burst on to the scene as a 13-year-old phenom. Eleven years later, Michelle Wie captured her first ever major championship by winning the U.S. Women's Open at Pinehurst No. 2.

Her final round Sunday was anything but a breeze for the 24-year-old. Holding a three-stroke lead on the 16th hole, Wie double bogeyed to open the door for Stacy Lewis. Wie followed that up with a clutch 25-foot birdie putt on 17 before sinking a par on 18 for the title.

The final round 70 beat Lewis by two strokes after the worlds number one player made a historic charge. Her 4-under 66 was highlighted by eight birdies, the most by any golfer in a final round at the U.S. Open. After preparing for a possible playoff, Lewis greeted Wie with a hug on the final green.

Wie shot 2-under for the tournament, the only player to finish under par. Lewis finished second at even par while Stephanie Meadows finished at 1-over.
