Suns Will Try to Reach Deal with Eric Bledsoe Before Free Agency

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Phoenix Suns gave guard Eric Bledsoe expanded playing time for the first time in his career this past season, and he flourished. Now, the team will attempt to sign him to a long-term deal before free agency begins in July.

“We’ll try to do that as soon as possible and not let it get to the point where you’d have to get an offer and we’d match it,” Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough told The Arizona Republic.

Bledsoe is a restricted free agent, meaning that the Suns can match any offer made to Bledsoe by rival teams.

Eric Bledsoe spent his first three seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers, but played in a reserve role during that time because the team already has point guard Chris Paul.

The Suns acquired Bledsoe in a trade, and the team's gamble paid off. In 43 seconds this season, Bledsoe put up career numbers across the board as he averaged 17.7 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game.
