Woman Charged with Arson After Lighting Fire to Kill Spider

iStock/Thinkstock(TOPEKA, Kansas) -- A Kansas woman has been charged with arson for reportedly lighting a fire to kill a spider.

Ginny Griffith, 34, was arrested and charged with aggravated arson after firefighters had to put out a small fire in her half of a duplex.

A police report said Griffith told officers she used a cigarette lighter to ignite some towels to kill the spider.

Firefighters say they found light smoke and some clothing smoldering inside the doorway when they got there. Although the damage was small, Griffith was charged because the other half of the duplex was occupied.
