Atheltics Option Tommy Milone to Triple-A
Published at(NEW YORK) –The Oakland Athletics have so much starting pitching depth now after their recent blockbuster trade, they’ve optioned Tommy Milone to Triple-A Sacramento.
Milone by no means has had a poor season for the Athletics. In 16 starts for Oakland this season, Milone went 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA.
Most teams would love to have a starter with a 3.55 ERA, but the Athletics simply have no place for him in their starting rotation.
Over the weekend, the A’s went out and traded some of their top prospects to the Chicago Cubs for starting pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel, both of whom have performed better thsi season.
“He was shocked,”Athletics manager Bob Melvin said when he told Milone the news.
Despite the demotion, Milone is expected to rejoin the team at some point this season.
The Athletics now have one of the best starting rotations in all of Major League Baseball, and also lead the league in runs scored.
