“This was a great opportunity,” Cabrera said through an interpreter. “I wanted it. I needed to win a tournament. I felt under control today out there, and I didn’t want to let it get away from me.”

The 44-year-old finished the tournament at 2-under, posting a 6-under 64 in his final round to beat George McNeill by two strokes. McNeill shot a season-best 61 for his fourth top-10 finish of the year.

For Cabrera, it is his first top-10 finish of the season and his first win since the 2009 Masters. The Argentinian’s only other PGA Tour victory came in the 2007 U.S. Open.

And although McNeill played well, he suffered some bad news right after his round — his older sister passed away from cancer early Sunday morning.

“Golf doesn’t really mean a whole lot,” McNeill told reporters after hearing the news. “So it’s hard.”
