With the 36-foot Boston Whaler vessel potentially drifting into a busy shipping lane in the Port of New York and New Jersey Friday night, the baker called for help, and the NYFD responded, the New York Daily News reports. The department was able to find the wayward Whaler with a boat equipped with an infrared camera, and an NYPD boat helped guide Buddy and his passengers — nine kids between the ages of 5 and 12 — back to clearer waters.

Valastro, who owns Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, N.J., took to Instagram to post pictures of, and thank, their rescuers. “Want to thank my friends at the NYPD and FDNY for coming to help me (and) my family stuck in the fog in the Hudson, towing us in,” Buddy posted. “You guys rock.”

He added, “Next time we go out at night need to check the forecast,” posting with the hashtag, “#mywifewantstokillme.”
