Cardinals Acquire SP Justin Masterson from Indians
Published at(NEW YORK) — In an attempt to bolster their starting rotation, the St. Louis Cardinals have acquired right-hander Justin Masterson from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for minor league outfielder James Ramsey.
Masterson is 4-6 with a 5.51 ERA this season for Cleveland. He will be a free agent this winter. Masterson has struggled with a knee injury recently and was placed on the disabled list July 8. He has yet to be activated.
The 29-year-old right-hander made the All-Star team last season when he went 14-10 with three shutouts. He finished his career in Cleveland with a 48-61 record.
Ramsey, 24, was the 23rd overall pick in the 2012 draft out of Florida State. In 235 minor league games, he’s a .266 hitter with a .368 on base percentage.
