(NEW YORK) — Defensive playmakers are becoming a premium in the NFL and the Cardinals are taking care of their own as they’ve rewarded cornerback Patrick Peterson with a five-year extension worth $70 million with $48 million guaranteed.
Petterson is now the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL in terms of total money. He beats out the Browns’ Joe Hadden, who got $68 million earlier this offseason.
Petterson was the fifth overall pick in the 2011 Draft, and has been everything the Cardinals hoped they’d be getting. He’s made three Pro Bowls and is a two-time NFL All Pro. He’s considered one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL and is also an explosive returner, and sometimes mixes in with the team on offense. Since his rookie season, Petterson is third in the NFL in interceptions with 12.
